At its most basic, numerology is the study of numbers and their influence in our lives, but there is so much more potential.

I love numerology because it’s a thread of understanding that can be pulled, and pulled and pulled – ad infinitum.

Numerology offers so many facets to understanding a single event.  In its esoteric form, numerology is the code cracker of our life experience.

Several branches of science contend the prime root of true reality can be narrowed down to numbers.  Ones and Zeros to be precise.

Granted, this may seem oversimplified and sterile; whittling down our existence to the fluctuations of two numbers.  But there is some real merit to this view, and numerology encourages us to pay attention to the value behind numbers in our lives.

To wit: What part of your life is not touched by numbers?  Bingo.

All life can listen and speak in the language of numbers, and that’s why the study of numerology can offer an astoundingly diverse view into reality, consciousness, existence, and even every-day life.  Numbers are a universal language.

A basic use of numerology is studying numbers in birth dates.  And although it is true, tons of information can be gleaned from birth numbers – exclusive use of numerology in this form is highly underutilizing this branch of wisdom.

Number enthusiasts will branch out in numerology by calculating meaning of other dates, times, and even names.  Each letter of the alphabet resonates with a number (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc).  By transcribing alpha characters into numerals, more meaning can be derived.

Amazingly, this is just the tip of the iceberg in numerology.  Numbers can be oracles in our daily life too.

If you are encountering a series of visitations – the number holds significant meaning.  A random example of this is found in the classic Dickens’ tale, A Christmas Carol in which Scrooge is visited thrice.  As if being visited by past, present and future ghosts wasn’t prophetic enough, Scrooge could have factored the number three in his ruminations (and hence, his change of heart).  Three is a creative number, and every bit an energy of transformation – in any context.

Further, we can consider groups of numbers for deeper knowledge.  This is particularly true in nature where numbers seem to really sing the high notes in symbolic tunes.

Our  greatest messages will come from the numbers in nature.  To wit, encountering a certain number of animals on a nature walk can hold significant meaning.  The animals will have a message, to be sure, and their numbers will underscore that message.

Nature is rife with  numerological fodder.  Consider the numbers of petals on a flower as an oracle.  Or, the number of individual clouds in the sky that catch your attention.  Even the number of legs (8) on a spider is significant in meaning.

So the answer to the question “What is numerology” is much more intricate than surface response.
