Freedom which comes about from what we have learned over time is this week’s theme. Higher laws also feature as does karma. There’s a different vibe this year when the Sun enters expansive and adventurous Sagittarius on the 23rd and that’s because for the first time in 29 years, Saturn is in here. Saturn restricts but he is also about establishing foundation. We can say that his energy is opposite to that of Sagittarius but as with any planet, it’s a question of working with him, rather than against. Sagittarians are being asked to establish the basis from which freedom can happen. All of us however could be faced with the consequences of taking our freedoms for granted as subsequent restrictions are imposed especially when it comes to travel, moving around and our access to learning. We may see this occurring in the wider world from the moment the Sun enters Sag as it meets Mercury and Saturn. Freedom is a concept easy to talk about and also all too easy to lose.

The full Moon in Gemini which is of course the opposite sign to Sag and one of the signs which Mercury rules; so with the Sun, Mercury and Saturn conjunct in Sag we can say this is a full Moon that nobody will be able to ignore. Time to keep things very much grounded which Saturn wants us to do, and not let ideas or events get blown up out of all proportion. However, we all need to guard against rigidity as Saturn is not known for his flexibility. Of course, we are dealing with the energy of two Mutable signs – fast changing, ever-shifting – but Saturn asks us to bring maturity to the table without resorting to superior beings tactics or arrogance as in ‘I know better than you what’s good for you’.

The problem is of course the other, quiet, mutable sign of Pisces where ruler Neptune sits which squares all this activity. Neptune dissolves boundaries making it very hard for us to discern where they are – or that they may be disappearing altogether! That’s why we can’t take freedom for granted. What does all this say? There is no ‘black and white’ here and we have to look at all the shades in between when searching for solutions. We should access our higher consciousness and also bring empathy to the table. Above all, don’t jump to conclusions or make assumptions and when it comes to any kind of freedom – personal or collective – don’t take it for granted now.

Those with personal planets in the early degrees of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces are going to feel the impact of the Moon and be looking at what freedom means closer than some. For Sag, this doesn’t mean the party hasn’t started – just that this year you’re looking to celebrate the things that truly mean the most to you.
