Michele’s Simple Guide to Your Moon Sign

Next to your Sun sign and your ascendant or rising sign, your Moon sign is the next most important aspect of your natal chart. The great thing about your Moon sign is that just like your Sun sign you don’t need to know your time of birth – it was in a certain sign when you were born. So, how does knowing your Moon sign help you? Think of it this way – your Sun sign along with your rising sign rules your individuality and the way your personality expresses itself with others. Your Moon sign rules your emotional personality and who you are when you are alone. She is the ruler of your behavioural patterns both conscious and unconscious, dreams, intuition and also cellular memory. She is the link not just with the feminine but with your emotional ancestry too! So, knowing your Moon sign tells you a lot about not only yourself, but your creative imagination, your subconscious desires and even your family tree!

If you are looking up your Moon sign in an ephemeris – and there are many on-line you can use, make a note of what phase the Moon was in when you were born as this can be every bit as important as the sign the Moon occupied. Was it a new Moon or full? First Quarter? Void-of-Course? Last Quarter or even eclipsed? The phase she was in at the time of your birth often turns out to be a major theme in your life. Think about the words the phase she was in conjures up for you then see how they apply to your life. The parallels are usually quiet spooky!

The Moon is the ruler of Cancer and the 4th house in your chart. She is exalted in Taurus, in fall in Scorpio and in detriment in Capricorn. If you have the Moon in Scorpio this usually indicates your mother was distressed or in difficulty giving birth to you. Check with mum if you can.

Here is how your Moon emotionally expresses itself.

If you were born with the Moon in Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn you have a Cardinal Moon. This is one of the most emotionally assertive Moons. Aries Moon seeks leadership. Cancer Moon is focussed on family, home and a rich emotional life. Libra Moon is about relationships and partnerships and Capricorn Moons are the most complex as they can use and exploit material resources for emotional needs.

You have a Fixed Moon if your Moon is in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius. These Moons are the most stable but also they can keep our emotions ‘hidden’ or ‘under wraps’ in some way. They are more concerned with the world of emotions rather than the outer world. They are usually very consistent but also they hold on to past hurts more than other Moons. Taurus is the most stable, Leo Moons can bring challenges when it comes to controlling emotions, Scorpio Moon is either over-sensitive or on permanent ‘replay’ and an Aquarian Moon can bring self-doubts.

If you were born with the Moon in Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces then you have a Mutable Moon. These Moons are more open to emotional learning but can also be unpredictable! They do however find to easy to let go emotionally and not hang on to people, situations and hurts from the past. Gemini Moons bring in an openness to new feelings and ideas, Virgo Moons are focussed on the external environment – a place for everything and everything in its place – and that includes feelings. Sagittarius Moon wants to reach out and experience something new and different while Pisces Moon has to understand which emotions are theirs and when they are actually channelling the feelings of others.

Your Moon sign is how your emotions express themselves but remember – no matter how you do this every Moon sign is about emotional evolution which is what occurs when we understand why we feel the way we do!
