2023 winds down as 2024 revs up. It’s only natural that for at least some of December, we spend a little time in reflection looking back at what we did and didn’t do in the past 12 months. If you drop into this month’s New Moon in Sagittarius Moonscope – the new Moon in here appears on the 12th – you’ll see I recommend setting those New Year Intentions then rather than waiting for January 1. Why? Because the new moon energy in here hands us all impulsion and positive intention. And gets us all off to a head start. It’s energetic as opposed to just a calendar date. So set those resolutions early. Time for a newer, bigger vision.
Outer planet retro weather is almost over as with a ho-ho-ho, Jupiter heads direct on New Year’s Eve in Taurus. Neptune is direct in ruling Pisces from the 6th leaving just Uranus backwards in the far reaches of the solar system. It will move forward in January. Chiron, that snowball of an astral object, also heads direct in Aries from the 27th. Opening the way for bold, outrageous fortune following the actions we initiate.
However, December sees Mercury retrograde in Capricorn from the 13th. It re-enters Sagittarius – sign of mass transportation and long distance travel, on the 23rd. Your retro weather report tells you to watch just that if travelling. And to pack the retro rules if you are heading overseas. Expect delays, cancellations, snags and snafus, strikes, breakdowns – do factor in extra time needed to get where you’re going. The 27th when Mercury squares Neptune could be particularly confusion prone.
At long last something lasting for us all as Venus enters Scorpio (4th) and trines Saturn in Pisces (5th). Delivering depth perception on our money and our most intimate ties. Nothing that’s just superficial glitter under our love tree at this point. In the run up to the new Moon in Sagittarius, the Venus/Jupiter opposition (10th) and the Mercury/Jupiter trine (8th) may hand many of us empowering opportunities or deliver rewards for all the daring, positive actions we took in the name of love in the past year. It also provides the fuel for us to set those intentions under the new moon.
Pluto turns anaretic in Capricorn (20th) just ahead of the Sun’s arrival in here (22nd). Pluto is now very much in its endgame in Capricorn. It will re-enter Aquarius in January. And then pay Capricorn one final visit September – November 2024 before it exits for good. Never to return in our lifetimes. An anaretic degree – 29 or 0 degrees, is when the planetary energy peaks. What we’ve achieved, what is achievable, what has been established with integrity and build to last – and what isn’t, becomes abundantly clear. Pluto cleans house. It’s about power. Capricorn is about career and the ‘establishment’. So, anything over-valued or those who have abused their positions – watch out! Pluto’s about.
The 22nd brings the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere and the summer one in the southern. A point where we all can pause and yes, look back at what we did and didn’t do before resetting that integrity, determination (Capricorn is in it for the long haul), and intentions and heading upward again. Remember with Mercury retrograde, its time for planning or revising that course, rather than a major push ahead. However, our intentions can be honed so they are true to what we need to achieve for ourselves. The right path to take towards soul satisfaction. Which transcends what society defines as ‘success’. When we consciously take that path, we can’t help but succeed.
The final full Moon of ‘23 always appears in Cancer. It’s the counter-balance to the Sun in the astral penthouse or mountain top in Capricorn. We can’t grow or go anywhere without roots. To be successful, we must be grounded. Even explorers need a home port or star base to return to. The full Moon in Cancer shows us ours. Or what we need to do to create this. Venus in Sagittarius (29th) tells us love is freedom and freedom to love is all. Then Jupiter direct in Taurus on the final day of ‘23 delivers the values that underpin all of this.
Congratulate yourself on all you’ve done, accomplished and attempted in ‘23. It’s not the result that’s important. It’s the daring to act and take away the experience. With your intentions set, spend the next few weeks creating the support structure to enable you to accomplish all you set out to conquer in ‘24. This is when you create your launch pad. And the countdown begins.
In a nutshell: The old year ends on a high note as we look back on all we did. And set some bold, brand new intentions for ‘24. Get a head start by stating those resolutions early. Every success story begins with a vision. Set yours.
