The Sun in Astrology – Where you shine!

The Sun in astrology is where you shine. Literally.  The sign the Sun is in on the day you were born is showing you your path, your purpose and the area of life where You Got This. Nothing tops the Sun in importance. That is simply because everything in our solar system revolves around it. You, me, the Earth, the asteroids and all the other planets. Without the Sun we wouldn’t exist.

Work your Sun Sign

The Sun forms the basis of Sun Sign astrology. When done right, Sun Sign astro can be astoundingly and mind-openingly accurate. Yet, so many people dismiss this as ‘generalisation’. What the Sun’s position in our charts shows us is what we are here to do. So, when we ‘do’ our Sun correctly, success, happiness, love and all that good stuff is ours.

Practice Makes Perfect

You’d think knowing this would make life simple. The thing about the sign the Sun occupies in our charts is that we may have to work at doing it right. As they say, practice makes perfect. Usually working our Sun gets easier the older we get. Why? Because as we age, we get to see what works and what doesn’t for us. Being anyone but ourselves is just too much like hard work. And we stop worrying about what others may think.

Michelle Obama’s book and the subsequent Netflix documentary ‘Becoming’ is a perfect example of someone becoming what their Sun intended them to be.  Michelle Obama was born on January 17,  1964. This puts her Sun in Capricorn. Capricorn rules sustained effort, the establishment, commitment to the long term and also how high can you climb. It’s the 10th house of the zodiac. The highest point in our charts.

The 10th house also traditionally rules our partner’s status too. And what they can achieve.  It’s also a very ‘public’ house. Where reputation is everything.  If you have a Capricorn Sun and want to ‘work’ it, Michelle Obama is a perfect role model to follow.  She attended Princeton University and then Harvard Law School. Serious, established Ivy League universities. Upon graduating she went to work for a Chicago law firm where she met her husband.

Interesting Astro Fact: Barack Obama has his natal Saturn in its ruling sign of Capricorn. It is within two degrees of Michelle’s natal Sun. So, while Barack Obama is a Leo, with the ruler of the 10th in its ruling sign, we can say these two share many Capricorn traits. Leo is also the ‘royal’ or ‘ruling’ sign. So, you have the makings of a power couple.

In for the long haul

Capricorn knows there are no short cuts to success. It does however have a goal (the mountain top) in mind. And it will keep going until it gets there. Working a Capricorn Sun means deferred gratification for big rewards later. You can see how this has played out in Michelle Obama’s life. Beginning with long term study in an established profession and commitments to her own career, her husband’s, her family and embracing the best Capricorn ideals, to empowering others, especially women.

Working her Sun did not happen overnight. We can say, she grew in to it. Learning as she went. But the result was she climbed as high as she possibly could becoming the first African American First Lady. And a success in her own right.

Shine On

So, look at the positive qualities associated with your Sun sign. This is what you are in the process of becoming. These are your superpowers. The ones you have had all along but may not have realised. Suit up. The more you live them, express them, become them and work them, the easier life will get. And the happier you will be.

Get up and glow!

Your Sun sign shows you what you want. Not what you need (that’s your Moon sign). Working your Sun sign potential is a little like going to the gym. You may get to use muscles you haven’t in a long time. And the more you use them, the stronger they get.  And the better you get at doing your Sun.

For instance, Gemini is all about communicating ideas. But it needs to stop talking and see them through. Home and family are important to Cancers. But they need to understand that security and smothering are two very different things.  Virgo strives for perfection. And what’s wrong with that? Nothing so long as they understand that people and things can be imperfect but perfect for them at the same time.  Our Sun sign wants us to express the positive qualities of it and become a shining example of just what each sign’s individual gifts can be.
